Der Impressionismus macht einen angeblich vertraut mit einem ersten Eindruck, der in der Übersetzung durch den Kopf verloren ging. Nun gibt es auf Kreta diese Übersetzung nicht.

I take pictures from inside Xenia’s Airbnb. No filters, no fotoshop, no nothing. Just my iPhone, the church, the shadows.

Impressionism professes to re-introduce to you an impression which is lost in the translation of your mind. Well, on Crete, there’s no such translation…

In contrast

Viel wird der Widerspruch…

Much is written about contradiction.

….zu wenig werden die Kontraste thematisiert.

Much less on contrast.

Kontraste sind weniger spektakulär.

Contrast is less impressive.

Kontraste wie Kakteen und Schnee.

Contrast like cactuses and snow.

Wie Moscheen und Kirchen.

Like mosques and churches.

Wie Minarette an venezianischen Bauten.

Like minarets upon Venetian edifices.

Wie Rost und Liebe (Salz in der Luft).

Like rust and love (salt in the air).

Kontraste sind weniger spektakulär als Widersprüche, weil sie offensichtlicher sind.

Contrast is less impressive than contradiction, because it’s more obvious.

Offensichtlicher auf Kreta.

More obvious on Crete.

Und eventuell anderswo auch.

And arguably in other places too.
